For the season
Friendsgiving Gift Ideas for Your Friends

A Friendsgiving gift depends on which chair you're sitting in. If you're a guest, bring the host something that makes the day after easier. If you're hosting, a small gift at every plate turns dinner into a night people remember. And if your group wants one thing to share, there are gifts for that too. Below are ideas for all three, plus a few lines for the note, because at Friendsgiving the note is the point.
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, 2026, so most groups pick a Friendsgiving weekend before or after it. Settle the date in your group chat by early November, while everyone's calendar still has room.
What to bring the host
The host cooked, cleaned and will be washing dishes at midnight. The best host gifts help with the morning after.
- Breakfast for tomorrow. Good coffee and something from a bakery, with a note: "For the morning after. You've earned it." Nobody wants to cook the day after hosting.
- Containers for the leftovers. A set of reusable containers labeled "yours to keep", so the host isn't chasing their own dishes into January.
- A new set of dish towels. Every Friendsgiving ends with at least one towel that didn't make it.
- The dessert, already made. Ask first, then bring it on a plate you don't need back.
- A plant that forgives. A small succulent or cactus outlasts any bouquet.
- A candle for later. Something for the night when the house is finally quiet.
If you're hosting: a small gift at every plate
A little something at each seat doubles as the place card. Keep it the same for everyone, made personal with a name.
- A clear ornament with each friend's name and the year. It's the first Christmas ornament of the season, and every December it brings back this dinner.
- A small jar of something you made. A spice blend, cranberry sauce, candied pecans. Write the name on the lid.
- A card under every plate. "I'm thankful for you because..." finished in your own handwriting, one sentence each. Read them out loud before dessert, or let people find them when they sit down.
- A printed photo from this year. One you took of each friend, on their plate. Phones are full of photos nobody ever prints.
One gift for the whole group
- The tablecloth everyone signs. A plain cotton tablecloth and fabric markers. Every Friendsgiving, everyone writes one line and the year. In ten years it's the group's history.
- A gratitude jar. Everyone drops in a note about another friend during dinner. Someone reads them aloud with the pie.
- The group photo, actually printed. Take it before anyone eats, print one for everyone, and mail them the next week.
- A date for the next one. Before people leave, pick the date for the Christmas get-together and put it in everyone's phone.
If your group does a gift swap
Some groups add a small exchange to Friendsgiving. If yours does, here are gift exchange ideas for friends, with games for big groups and small ones. And if you're already thinking about December, our guide to Christmas gifts for a group of friends has ideas you can make in one evening.
For a friend who can't come
Somebody always can't make it: a shift at work, a flight home, a new baby. Send her a plate of leftovers if she's close, or a photo of her empty chair with everyone holding up their glasses if she's far. Then mail something small that says she was missed. For the friend who lives far away, there's a guide to Christmas gifts for a long-distance best friend with this year's mailing dates.
Words on the wall
If a friend at your table deserves something that stays up longer than the leftovers, we make prints for best friends. Besides Capy and Bara, our two capybara best friends, there are hand-lettered word prints like the one in the photo: "Built on inside jokes and very little judgment.", with her name underneath. Pick the color and collect it with Same Day Pickup at a store near you, or have it mailed free to any address in the 50 states. See the prints.
What to write in the note
I'm thankful for the people who show up with a dish and stay to do the dishes. That's you.
Same table, same people, a whole year older. Happy Friendsgiving.
Thank you for being the family I'd choose every November.
Next year, same table. I'm not taking no for an answer.
You make every table feel like home, even when the turkey is dry.
